About Moi

Dear Reader,

When I first started this blog, I intended it to be a resource for my Orthodox Christian friends (or anyone else) looking for recipes to use during the four main fasting periods, and countless other fasting days throughout the year. But, well, the blog took on a life of its own. Presently, here is what you can expect to find while visiting:

1. Lots and lots and lots of vegan recipes
2. Reviews of vegan meals at local restaurants (and sometimes places afar, when I travel), and vegan store-bought items
3. Stuff related to Orthodox Christianity, especially during Great Lent or on a major feast day
4. Snail Mail
5. Travel updates, when I have the means to travel

About those recipes. I’m afraid I don’t care much for measurements, so I hope you like to experiment! I do use regular old recipes sometimes, though.

Also. I’m never satisfied with this About page and I update it pretty regularly. Keep checking back here if you want to learn more “About” me because chances are, you will see something new eventually.

If you like what you see, please “Like” OhSheCooks.com on facebook! I post random little updates, share recipes from other blogs, and whatever other vegan-related things that are of interest to me (and hopefully to you). I’m also on Pinterest.

If you have any questions or special requests, please feel free to email me at OhSheCooks@gmail.com and I’ll see what I can do. Happy cooking!

  1. Brilliant … very good! You had an interesting life … moving around and been aboard – thank you so much … to become even vegetarian isn’t in my books, but I respect everybody for their believes in food , God or no God, Really like you recipes – they are very inspiring – that is the best thing that I don’t have to be vegan to enough vegan food. Good luck to you. *smile

  4. Vegan cooking has come a long way. Now there’s vegetable crumble substitute for ground beef, vegan cheese that actually melts, vegan hot dogs, even vegan polish sausage and breakfast sausage. Someone who has been vegan all of their life will not miss these things, but someone who’s just deciding to go vegan for heath reasons will still appreciate all these old tastes. Going vegan does not necessarily mean doing without.

Even regular restaurants have become more vegan-friendly. If you like Mexican food, you can still have vegan tamales, frijoles, burritos, nachos… the list goes on. And then, of course there’s great Mediterranean restaurants with falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and hummus. Yum!

    • All true, except the meat analogues and faux cheeses generally aren’t all that great for you, either. I still eat them sometimes because it’s neat to try all this new stuff, but my goal is to learn to make substitutes from scratch using healthy ingredients.

Either way, as you point out, it’s definitely possible to be vegan and still eat all kinds of great food! And Middle Eastern is probably one of my favorites since I’m half Syrian :)

  5. Was just perusing your blog and noticed in one photo you were kneading dough and it looked like you are wearing a ‘komboskini’ (greek prayer rope). Then I read here you are Orthodox Christian. I am Greek and wondering if you are as well? Your blog looks lovely!

    • Thank you so much!

I’m Antiochian Orthodox and mostly Syrian, but I think I am something like 1/16 Greek :) I actually just got back from Greece a few weeks ago, there are lots of pictures if you go back to older posts.

I can’t wait to look through your vegan recipes!

  6. I just started a blog – looks like I had roughly the same idea you did, only you’ve got quite a head start on me. Anyway, looks like I’ll be checking you out for inspiration, and I would certainly love feedback or advice if you ever have time to check mine out! Thanks!

  7. My husband is from Michigan. He is a convert to Orthodoxy! I think western Michigan is one of the most beautiful places in the world! Especially upper western Michigan along the Lake Michigan coast – Leelenau Petoskey etc.

    • Oh, that’s awesome! Yeah, it’s beautiful up there, and Grand Rapids is a cool little city, too. Do you live far from Michigan now? I love the way WordPress keeps making the world smaller and smaller for me :) So nice to meet you!
